Then go into Windows, configure it for manual page file management, and temporarily add a 20 GB page file onto that virtual disk. If you doubt this, on a system using the default Microsoft VSS provider, create a VHDX-hosted virtual drive and perform an image backup of that virtual disk. But it's not the case that everyone who uses Reflect (or any other image backup application that relies on VSS) has to take steps to manually exclude the pagefile from their backups. Your third-party provider might not have done that. Providers are capable of excluding data from snapshots, and the default Microsoft VSS provider does exclude certain data - including things like the page file, hibernation file, System Restore checkpoints, the Windows Search index database, and possibly other elements. The VSS provider is responsible for preparing the disk snapshot that the image backup uses as its basis for performing a backup. The fix was to exclude it following advice from support inĪccording to your linked thread, you were running software that replaced the default Microsoft VSS provider with a third-party provider. Turmed out my suspicions were correct and was caused by Macrium backing up the [pagefile. I had an issue with bloated/slow incremnetal images. How can I make sure pagefile.sys, swapfile.sys and hiberfil.sys are not included in disk backups? It's supposed not to from searching the forums and internet.
